Michael Eugene Brooks

Michael Eugene Brooks, 69, passed away May 9, 2017 at his home in Libby.

He was born November 25, 1947 in Polson to Loyal and Frances Brooks. After high school, Mike enlisted in the U.S. Navy where he served on an aircraft carrier in Vietnam.

In 1969, he received an honorable discharge from the Navy and moved to Libby where he went straight to work for St. Regis Paper Company. His employment there was short-lived as he really wanted to drive big trucks and operate heavy equipment, so later in 1969 he went to work for W.R. Grace and Company where he was employed until the mine closed in 1990. In 1991, Mike moved to Elko, Nevada where he was employed by two more mining companies, Newmont Gold and Independence. He retired in 2010 and moved back to Libby.

Mike enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping. He was also a proud member of the American Legion and VFW.

He was preceded in death by his father, Loyal, and his brother David.

He is survived by his four sons, Mike Brooks of Columbia Falls, and Jim Brooks, Jon Brooks and Jeff Brooks, all of Libby; his mother, Frances Cole, of Libby; sisters, Barbara Smith of Libby, Juanita Larson of Tacoma, and Mary Gooch of Twin Bridges; brothers Ron Brooks of Ronan and Bob Brooks of Missoula; three stepsisters, Jerry Davisson of Kalispell, Carol Wilkens of Martin City and Alice Jaynes of Libby; as well as numerous grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Services will be 11 a.m. Friday, June 2, 2017 at Schnackenberg and Nelson Funeral Home in Libby, followed by Veterans Military Honors at the Libby Cemetery.
