Increasing fees won't discourage illegal activity

Time to toss in the “BS (Banish Stupidity) Flag” that calls for a public revisit of the last paragraph of the article regarding “....Septic Tank Regulation” (Friday, May 12, 2017). Whoever voices the idea that increasing fees would somehow “discourage” an illegal action in Lincoln County qualifies for mental health counseling.

County fees for a septic tank installation more than doubled from 2009 to 2010 with $100 jump as my memory serves. Did the sanitation department record an encouraging decrease in violators over the past 7-8 years resulting from the fee increase? Ridiculous.

I would hope our county fees are soundly based on some reasonable logic and market forces.
