Cabinet Peaks Medical Center released a statement this week reminding people it can help them navigate their post-open enrollment health care options.

Now that open enrollment is over for the year, many people are wondering what qualifies as a Special Enrollment Period and enrollment for Medicaid and Healthy Montana Kids.

In January of 2015, the center added a free service for South Lincoln County residents when Sandy Heinlein, a patient account representative, became licensed as a State of Montana Insurance Navigator. Since then, Sandy has helped the community with their insurance questions and options.

Events that quality for special enrollment under the Affordable Care Act include:

-Recent unemployment/layoff

-Reduction in number of hours worked

-Change in income

-Change in marital status

-Change in dependents (birth of new baby/adoption)

-Moving to a new state that has different insurance coverage

-Any other life changing event

Additionally, enrollment for Medicaid and Healthy Montana Kids is open any time of the year.
