Shirley Hansberry Nixon
Shirley was born in Libby on November 25, 1933 and passed away May 8, 2017. Shirley’s early childhood was spent in Libby until the family bought a ranch in Warland, where she attended school through the eighth grade. While in the eighth grade she did substitute teaching for the younger students when the teacher was not there. She attended high school in Libby until at the age of 15 she met and married Ray Nixon.
Shirley and Ray made their home in Rexford until moving to Libby where they had four children and were happily married for 66 years until Ray’s passing in May of 2016.
Shirley had many talents including being a musician, seamstress, business manager, dog trainer and gardener. She was always great at anything she would try. Her love of life showed through in everything she did.
Shirley was preceded in death by her loving husband Ray, brother Wes Hansberry, sister Colleen Woodward, brother-in-law Bob Woodward, sister-in-law Ann Nixon and brother-in-law Doug Nixon.
Shirley is survived by her children, Cindy Sikes (Tom), Wade Nixon, Terry Lane (Sam) and Jesse Nixon, as well as numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Shirley left a very large footprint to follow in life with her love of the Lord and the love she gave to her family and friends. She will be greatly missed.
Services will be held 10 a.m. Friday, May 12, 2017 at The Libby Christian Church. Arrangements are by Schnackenberg & Nelson Funeral Home in Libby. Online condolences and memories may be shared at www.schnackenbergfh.com.
