Betty Jeanne Derry

| May 5, 2017 4:00 AM

Betty Jeanne Derry, 87, a longtime Libby resident, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 29, 2017 at Cabinet Peaks Medical Center. She was born in 1929 in Morgantown, West Virginia, the 11th of twelve children born to Clara (Earle) and Waitman Claude Anderson.

A few years after high school, Betty moved to California with her sister Mary and brothers Dick and George in search of adventure. There she met and married Frank Derry in 1951. The couple moved to Libby and bought a house on property south of town, where Betty lived for over 60 years.

Betty and Frank had three children: John, George and Beverly. The couple later divorced. Betty worked various jobs for the U.S. Forest Service, Pay ‘N Pak and the Lincoln County Treasurer’s office. She retired in 1979.

In retirement, Betty volunteered for a local thrift store and was active in Libby Christian Church, where she enjoyed caring for children during services and working in the library.

Betty had a quick wit and a great sense of humor. She loved the outdoors, birdwatching, reading and playing games with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Betty is survived by a brother, David Anderson of Alexandria, Virginia, sons John Derry of Libby and George Derry of Fairview, daughter Beverly Breitbach of Brockway, five grandchildren and seven great-granddaughters, who were the apples of her eye.

A private celebration of Betty’s life will be held later in the summer. Arrangements are by Schnackenberg & Nelson Funeral Home in Libby. Online condolences and memories may be shared at www.schnackenbergfh.com.
