Norvell pleads no contest

Brian Thomas Norvell pleaded no contest on Monday to assault and assault on a police officer.

Brian Thomas Norvell was arrested on Sept. 25 and later charged with assault and assault on a police officer.

The assault charges each carry a penalty of two to 10 years in prison and a fine of up to $50,000.

According to a sheriff’s office report, Chief Detention Officer Travis Miller was “processing medications” with Norvell when Norvell punched him in the mouth. Afterward, Miller unholstered his tazer, causing Norvell to stop the attack and willingly drop face down on the floor and place his hands behind his back.

Miller had a bloody mouth as a result of the punch, Deputy Brent Faulkner reported. Miller later received eight stitches as a result.

Faulkner also reported that he saw security camera footage of Norvell punching Miller.

When Faulkner handed Norvell a notice to appear, Faulkner reported hearing Norvell say something like, “I’m good with this.”

The other assault charge is under seal by the court.
