David Rolfson

David Rolfson, 67, of rural Watford City, passed away, Monday, March 6, 2016 at his rural Watford City residence.

David Arkjer Rolfson was born on Nov. 26, 1949 to Arkjer and Ruth (Bertinuson) Rolfson, the second of three children.

He grew up on his family’s farm and ranch north of Watford City, N.D. After graduating high school, David attended Bismarck State College for one year before enlisting in the United States Army. After serving several years in the army, he joined the National Guard and was honorably discharged in 1974 with the rank of sergeant. While on active duty, David was stationed at the DMZ in Korea and in Fort Knox, Ky. He finished his education at University of North Dakota Williston, and returned to Watford City to farm and ranch the Rolfson homestead.

David was united in marriage to Denalie Bruins and they had two children. He later married Jan Mathison and had four more children, David was a lifelong member of Garden Lutheran Church. He was also active in the American Legion and served as 9th District Commander, West Region Vice Commander and on the board for the N.D. American Legion Foundation.

David is survived by his wife, Jan, mother, Ruth Rolfson of Watford City; children, David Aaron Rolfson, Missoula, Sarah (Mike) Marco, Hillsdale N.J., Jessie Rolfson of Watford City, Nathan Rolfson of Arnegard, Matthew (Kim) Rolfson of Watford City and Bethany, (Sauvik) Rolfson, Libby, Mont.; grandchildren, Mary, Jacoby, Nora and Leah; sisters, Ingrid (Terry) Olson and Deanna (Stig) Karlsen as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his father, Arkjer Rolfson.
