A Libby man has been charged with possessing 3.5 grams of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia.

Justin Douglas Brickey, 26, was charged March 2 with two felony counts of criminal possession of dangerous drugs and one count of criminal possession of drug paraphernalia, a misdemeanor. The charges carry a maximum penalty of five years in the state prison and a fine of $50,000, with a minimum of two years in prison.

According to court documents, Lincoln County Sheriff’s Deputy Boyd White stopped a vehicle at Main Street and U.S. Highway 2 on Feb. 26 that didn’t match the vehicle registered to the license plate. White searched the vehicle because he knew the driver had been a drug user in the past. Brickey was a passenger in the vehicle.

Sheriff’s Deputy Ben Fisher and Sheriff’s Reserve Deputy Ed Apple responded to assist White with the traffic stop.

Fisher asked Brickey if he had anything on him that could injure the deputy. Brickey allegedly told the officer, “No.” Fisher conducted a pat search.

Apple asked if Brickey was a diabetic after finding syringes. Brickey allegedly said, “Yes.”

They allegedly found a blue plastic box containing a quarter gram of a crystal substance that tested positive for methamphetamine in Brickey’s pants. They also found 3.5 grams of methamphatamine in plastic baggies allegedly in the pocket of Brickey’s hoodie.

Brickey also reportedly had a concealed carry 9mm handgun, a scale, a package of syringes and a glass pipe.

Brickey was released on his own recognizance with a bond of $10,000.
