Yaak School benefit on July 1
The fifth annual Yaak School Arts and Crafts Fair will take place 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, July 1. Organizers say proceeds will help fund student field trips.
Local vendors will be on hand selling items including photographs, pottery, handmade jewelry, crocheted goods, wood carvings and hand-crafted soaps and lotions. There will also be a silent auction, free activities for children and an exhibit by Montana Fish Wildlife and Parks.
Troy’s Preview Cafe will offer lunch, and for dessert the Yaak Women’s Club will sponsor a bake sale.
Area residents built the one-room log school in 1932. Though two additions were built in subsequent years to provide bathrooms, a library and office, the basic structure did not change. “We have an excellent teacher, knowledgeable clerk and hard-working board of trustees,” organizers state in a news release. “Our K-8 school provides a good basic education to children in the valley who have gone on to become teachers, accountants, lawyers, doctors, engineers, musicians, nurses and researchers. We are proud of our school, staff and students.”
The Yaak School is located 45 minutes from Troy. From there, take Highway 2 west and turn right onto Highway 508 (Yaak River Road). The school is located between milemarkers 30 and 31.
