Troy Patrol officer Travis Miller, right, is sworn in by Mayor Darren Coldwell on Wednesday.

Troy Mayor Darren Coldwell at Wednesday’s City Council meeting swore in new Police Chief Katie Davis and new patrol officer Travis Miller.

Former chief Allen Dye came out of retirement in April 2016 when a temporary chief was needed, but the plan was always to fill the position permanently, Coldwell said.

After getting no response from advertising the position nationally, the position was announced in-house this week, Coldwell said. After identifying Davis’ interest, the council acted fast, interviewing her the day before her swearing in.

“From our reserves, we had 100 percent support of Katie for the position,” Coldwell said. “She’s whip smart and has a strong administrative leaning.”

Davis said after her swearing in that “it was presented that Allen wanted to hand (over) the torch as soon as possible, so I’ll start right away.”

As for Dye, Davis said “he’s a wealth of knowledge, and I think and hope he will help us out with training every now and again.”
