DuWayne Herbert Hamann

DuWayne Herbert “Ollie” Hamann, 80, of Libby passed away at the Libby Care Center on Friday, June 16, 2017 of natural causes. He was born Sept. 16, 1936 in Libby to Herbert and Esther (Eggert) Hamann. DuWayne was a Libby boy, being born and raised in the area. He attended the Libby Public Schools and graduated with the Class of 1954. It was while in high school that he acquired the nickname “Ollie” which stuck with him his whole life.

While in school, DuWayne worked at Miller’s Clothing Store for six years. In 1956, he went to work for the J. Neils Lumber Company where he worked until he was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1959. DuWayne did one tour of duty in Germany and received an honorable discharge in 1965. He returned to Libby and went back to work for J. Neils Lumber Company where he worked until his retirement in October of 1993. He then worked in tire shops around town for 17 years.

On July 27, 2001, DuWayne married Caroline Camp in Bonners Ferry, Idaho. DuWayne enjoyed their drives together around the beautiful mountains of northwest Montana, dancing together, and socializing. He will be truly missed by all who knew and loved him.

DuWayne was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert and Esther; a brother, Alden; and a sister, Ardelle Storbakken.

Survivors include his wife Caroline Hamann of Libby; step-children Denise Guinard (Tim) of Stevensville; Wayne Camp of Libby; Teresa Frazer (Jim) of McMinnville, Oregon; and Joe Camp (Coral) of Libby; brother Eugene Hamann (Beverly) of Kalispell; sister Doris Odell of Burlington, Washington; Missy, Porki, Stinker, Pete and other numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, June 20, 2017 at Schnackenberg & Nelson Funeral Home in Libby. Services for DuWayne will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 21, 2017, at Schnackenberg & Nelson Funeral Home Chapel.
