The Montana Fish and Wildlife Commission voted unanimously May 26 to deny the rule proposal based on the Quiet Waters Petition the commission heard in May 2016, according to a news release.

The commission began rulemaking last spring after Backcountry Hunters and Anglers submitted a petition called the “Quiet Waters Initiative” that sought to restrict motorized boating on various Montana rivers and streams, the news release states.

The commission received almost 2,000 comments during a public comment period between Nov. 25 and Feb. 12, and held public hearings in January throughout Montana.
