Anna Newell, a soil biologist with the Forest Service, came across this great grey owl Monday just south of Yaak on Pipecreek-Southfork Road. “I was walking into a timber sale unit and saw him out of the corner of my eye flying down to a tree near where I was walking,” she said. “He was huge and so quiet. But he let me get super close and didn’t seem to be afraid.” (Photo by Anna Newell)
