Troy woman arrested after allegedly stealing a vehicle

Kalli A. Ryals of Troy was recently arrested and is being held on charges of theft of unauthorized control over property exceeding $1,500, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle criminal trespass to vehicle and driving a motor vehicle while suspended or revoked, all felonies.

According to the affidavit filed by officer Meghen O’Brien, on Jan. 17, 2017, an individual reported that their vehicle had been stolen from in front of the VFW on Yaak Avenue in Troy.

O’Brien responded to the scene, where she confirmed with witnesses that the suspect was Ryals.

O’Brien then went to the residence of a male acquaintance of Ryals to inquire any contact the man may have had with Ryals while Deputy Steve Short went to Ryals’ residence to attempt to locate the vehicle.

Short located the vehicle and Ryals, where she allegedly confessed to taking the vehicle after she allegedly claimed that she was coerced by others present at the bar.

If convicted, Ryals faces $51,500 in fines, and imprisonment of up to 11 years.

She is being held on bond of $15,000 and her next hearing is Feb. 1, at 1:30 p.m.
