Rotary Club wine tasting in two weeks

The Rotary Club of Kootenai Valley has one major fundraiser each year — the annual wine tasting event.

This year, the event is scheduled for Friday, Feb. 10, featuring six wines from around the world specially paired with cuisine.

Activities include a live auction, raffles, door prizes and fellowship.

Proceeds from the fundraiser will go to support the following local projects:

• Dictionaries for every third grader in the county every year.

• INTERACT for middle and high school students

• Sixteen bookcases, locally made, stocked with books and distributed yearly to four-year-old Head Start students to encourage reading at an early age.

• Libby Kids’ Fishing Pond signage and asphalt track around the pond.

• Five yearly scholarships for graduating high school seniors from Libby and Troy.

• Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) yearly scholarships for a five-day camp to train, reward and encourage leadership skills in Libby and Troy • 10th grade students.

• Rotary sponsored basketball for boys and girls seventh and eighth grade teams.

• Food pantry annual donations.

• Shakespeare in the Park sponsorship every August.

• Support for Kiwanis’ Koats for Kids and Family Day in the Park.

Other projects include:

• Park benches for the splash pad at the Fireman’s Park.

• Two oak benches at KHC Memorial Center.

• $6,000 in Rotarians’ personal pledges for residents of Green Meadow Manor.
