Loggers split over weekend

Libby edged their way to a victory against Columbia Falls 51-43 during Friday’s match.

While it seemed that Libby had the initial momentum in the game, Columbia Falls fought back in the second half, scoring two more than the Loggers in the third quarter and tying in the last quarter with 20-20. While the Loggers garnered an eight-point victory, they made six points more than Columbia Falls in free throws.

Lauer scored nine of his team-high 15 points in the second half and Johnston had double figures by the end of the first half with 10 points.

Ryan Nagle, Peck and Maloney tied with seven points, Stephen Williams tallied four and Giovanni Cano scored one.

The Loggers made 40 percent of their shots, 19 percent of their three pointers and 50 percent of their free throws. They also had 27 rebounds with 10 offensive and 17 defensive, five assists, six steals, two blocks, 16 turnovers, 0 personal fouls, eight bench points, 10 second chance points and 15 points off turnovers.

Libby Logger Johnston scored 40 out of Libby’s 71 points in the game against Loyola-Sacred Heart, but that wasn’t enough for the Loggers to win on Saturday.

The Loggers led 14-9 after the first quarter and held a four-point advantage at half, but fell behind in the second half. Ultimately, Loyola defeated the Loggers 86-71.

Lauer chipped in 10 points, Nagle tallied seven, Maloney scored six, Gier and Peck scored three and Williams added two.

Libby made 40 percent of their shots, 50 percent of their three pointers and 65 percent of their free throws. They also had 13 offensive rebounds, 19 defensive rebounds, seven assists, three steals, two blocks, 19 turnovers, 0 personal fouls, six bench points, 14 second chance points and 15 points off of turnovers.
