Honor heroes on Marin Luther King Jr. Day

| January 10, 2017 12:04 PM

We all need heroes — people with the courage to stand in their power without cowering before threatened violence, embarrassment or financial damage. People whose ideals are their motivating force in spite of the odds. People who are not afraid to express themselves even if their ideas are unpopular. Martin Luther King Jr. was such a man.

I think he would have agreed with the anonymous author who wrote these words:

“Peacemaking doesn’t mean passivity. It is the act of interrupting injustice without mirroring injustice; the act of disarming evil without destroying the evildoer; the act of finding a third way that is neither fight nor flight, but the careful, arduous pursuit of reconciliation and justice. It is about a revolution of love that is big enough to set both the oppressed and the oppressors free.”

A big thank-you to the people who sent these inspiring words to us in honor of Love Lives Here in the Flathead.

Join us for the MLK Jr. celebration on Monday, Jan. 16, at the Performing Arts Center in Whitefish and on Tuesday, Jan. 17 at Flathead High School. Both performances begin at 7:30 p.m. and are free of charge. Bring your family and friends to enjoy the talent of Flathead Valley musicians, actors and students and listen to their vision.
