The Lincoln County Public Libraries will be presenting a full calendar of programs during the month of March. All events are free and open to the public.

Capitol Christmas Tree Ornament Making — The Kootenai National Forest will be supplying the Capitol Christmas Tree this year! Join us at any branch library, Eureka, Libby or Troy to help make ornaments to decorate the trees and show off the “beauty of the big sky.” A special ornament will be featured each month and supplies for the ornaments will be provided while they last.

The Eureka library will host story time for preschool age children every Thursday at 11:30 a.m.

The Libby library will host story time for preschool age children every Tuesday at 10 a.m. This month’s theme is “Opposites.”

The Troy library will host story time for preschool age children every Friday at 11:15 a.m. Storytime includes books, a craft and a snack.

The Troy library will host chess games every Saturday from 11:30 a.m. - 2 p.m. All ages and experience levels welcome. Bring yourself, a partner, and your favorite board. We also have boards available as well as a player/teacher/mentor and challenger. For more information please call Stacy at (406) 295-4040.

March 3, 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. — Book Sale: the Libby Friends of the Library are having a book sale. The entrance is on Main Street across from the post office. Stop by and check out the books, movies, and music cds. It’s a great way to support your library.

March 7, 10 a.m. — Preschool Storytime: join us at the Libby library as we meet one hard working freight train. He’s got to get to Chicago and nothing is going to stop him from getting there fast! Then we’ll meet a sloth who likes to do things very slowly.

March 9, 4 p.m. — After School Program, ages 5-12: join us at the Libby Elementary School for Mad Science — Lava lamp! Learn how to make a wave bottle using oil, water, and a secret ingredient that makes the whole thing fizz, bubble and erupt.

March 14, 10 a.m. — Preschool Storytime: join us at the Libby library for a big ocean adventure. A bright, giant blue squid roams the ocean, proudly noting he’s bigger than all the creatures he encounters, or is he?

March 21, 10 a.m. — Preschool Storytime: join us at the Libby library as we follow various sheep throughout their day: sheep of many colors, sheep taking baths, sheep in bands. But one question remains, where is the green sheep?

March 23, 4 p.m. — Afterschool Program, ages five-12: join us at the Libby Elementary School for Mad Science — Lemon Volcanoes: Who can resist an oozing, colorful, erupting mess?

March 25, 11 a.m. — Book Discussion: join us at the Libby Library for “A Hot Drink and A Good Book,” our monthly book discussion. This month features The Boys in the Boat by Daniel James Brown. An unlikely team of rowers assembled to represent the U.S. in the 1936 Olympic Games in Berlin. They came from humble backgrounds, were not professional athletes such as their competition, but they were truly a team. Copies are available at the library.

March 25, 1 p.m. — Writing Group: meet other aspiring local writers at the Libby library. Writers of all genres and experience levels are welcome to write, share and learn. Fuel your creativity with writing prompts and brief writing exercises with opportunities to share and discuss as a group.

March 28, 10 a.m. — Preschool Storytime: join us at the Libby library as we explore the difference between night and day. After a beautiful day in the sun, we’ll join the owl on his moonlit journey as he watches all the other animals settle in for the night. Some sleep standing up, while some sleep on the move!

March 31 — Amnesty Day: the last Friday of every month is Amnesty Day at the Lincoln County Public Libraries. Any materials less than 90 days overdue which are returned in good condition to any of the three libraries on that day will have all penalties waived. Overdue interlibrary loan materials are not included.
