Hunter Education classes scheduled for Troy, Plains, and Polson/Ronan/Pablo

Spring Hunter Education Classes have been scheduled for a number of communities in northwest Montana. All hunter education classes are free of charge.

By state law, anyone born after Jan. 1, 1985, must have completed the Hunter Education Course to buy a hunting license in Montana.

A student must be at least 10 years old to take the course.

All students must register online at the FWP website at fwp.mt.gov; click education, then click hunter education. Detailed instructions will be found at each class site.

Troy — Hunter education class for the Troy area begins on Tuesday, March 21, from 6 p.m.-8 p.m. at the Troy High School. Classes continue as follows March 22, 6 p.m.-9 p.m., March 23, 6 p.m.-8 p.m. Field course is Saturday, March 25, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.; test night is March 28, 6 p.m. -8 p.m. Detailed instructions are found online at the registration site for the class. Polson/Ronan/Pablo — Class for the Polson/Ronan/ Pablo Spring Hunter Education course will start Tuesday, March 7 in Room 118 of the Beaverhead Math & Science building on the Salish Kootenai College campus in Pablo. All classes will begin at 6:30 p.m. and end at 9 p.m. A parent or guardian must accompany students under 18 to the first class. This may be the only class offered this spring. Pick up manuals with instructions at Ronan Sports and Western, Westland Seed in Ronan or Murdochs and Walmart in Polson.

Plains — Orientation night for the Plains Hunter Education on Monday, March 6; it will begin at 6 p.m. at the Plains High School. Students will pick up their manuals and get course instructions. Classes will then meet at the high school beginning at 6 p.m. on March 27-31; field day will be Saturday, April 1 (Bowhunter education will start on April 3 with a similar schedule).
