Lady Loggers edged in both games during districts

The Libby Lady Loggers lost by a hair on Saturday night against the Lady Lions, bringing them to fourth place going into districts.

The Lady Loggers will still advance to Districts next weekend, but after losing to Bigfork on Thursday for second, and Eureka on Saturday for third — the team has fallen to fourth.

Against Bigfork, the team had a difficult time picking up their momentum after the first quarter, outscoring Bigfork 11-10. In the second, Bigfork edged past the Lady Loggers with 11-5. Libby tried to take the reigns again in the third quarter when they almost tied with the Valkyries 30-31.

The final quarter was when the Valkyries came down with a force, outscoring the Lady Loggers 21-10 for a final score of 52-40.

Shannon Reny and Abby Ennenga both led the team with nine each. Jayden Winslow scored six, Khalyn Hageness tallied five, Alli Collins and Sammee Bradeen chipped in four each and Brooklyn Rainer added three.

SINCE THE TEAM’S USUAL top-scorer Reny was left out with an injury during the game against Eureka, the rest of the team rallied to win but fell short by one point.

While the Lady Loggers outscored the Lady Lions in the first half 26-19, the Lady Lions came back with a vengeance in the second half — outscoring the Lady Loggers 12-2 in the third quarter.

In the last moments of the game, a layup was made by the Lady Loggers.

The ball rolled around the rim of the net, in a moment of tension in the court.

In the end, the ball missed the net and the Lady Lions outscored the Lady Loggers by 40-39.

Bradeen led the team with 12, with Winslow and Rainer falling close behind with six each. Madisen Monigold and Abby Ennenga each tallied five, Emma Gruber added three and Collins scored two.
