Boxers pave way to produce Libby's first olympic athlete
Two Libby boxers went down to Hamilton this weekend to fight in the third annual Dean Walrod Smoker, their first match affiliated with team U.S.A.
Libby Gym’s Zak Kreutz said the event was a success for the boxers.
“This was the first bout for each of our boxers. The Northwest Montana Boxing Club based in Libby Gym is the area’s first stepping stone toward Olympic Dreams.”
Libby Gym’s Tim Brivka won his bout against a boxer from Idaho. Unfortunately, boxer Jade Lane’s match against another boxer from Canada was cancelled.
“This gives us the first opportunity to produce an olympic athlete from Libby,” Kreutz said. “We have more kids signing up every day and so they may be able to start hosting events here.”
The two boxers filled out their paperwork for team U.S.A., giving them the opportunity to try out for a national team.
“We from Libby Gym and Northwest Montana Boxing club would also like to show our appreciation to the Hamilton Boxing Club for Hosting the Third annual Dean Walrod Smoker,” Kreutz said.
