Hazel Fern (Coon) Garnett

Hazel Fern (Coon) Garnett, 77, passed away Saturday, Dec. 2, 2017 at Cabinet Peaks Medical Center of natural causes. She was born on July 24, 1940 in Linton, North Dakota to Clifford M. and Lily (Nelson) Coon. She was the youngest of four children. Hazel’s early years were spent in North Dakota before moving with her family to Washington and eventually making her home in Libby. Hazel attended schools in the Libby area.

In 1959, Hazel married Melvin Baeth and together they had three children. They later divorced. Hazel’s early years were spent as a homemaker and she then accepted employment with St. Regis Lumber Company where she remained employed for more than 20 years. She acquired many long-term and treasured friendships while working there. Following her years of work in Libby, Hazel also called Nevada and Washington her home until returning to Libby in 2007.

Hazel’s passions included quilting, knitting, fishing, enjoying outdoor activities and spending time with her many family members and close friends.

Hazel was preceded in death by her parents, Clifford and Lily, and two brothers, Cliff and Lyle.

Hazel is survived by her three children: Kenny (Lora) Baeth of Elko, Nevada; Alan (Vicki) Baeth of Nevada; and Wanda (Randy) Holm of Libby; her brother, Norman (Brenda) Coon of Libby; sisters-in-law JoAnn Coon of Hinton, Alberta and Myrna Boswell of Libby; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life for Hazel will be held 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 9, 2017 at Schnackenberg & Nelson Funeral home in Libby.
