Libby, Whitefish top 2 at Tipoff in Frenchtown

Northwestern A teams captured the top two places in the Tipoff Tournament versus Southwestern A schools on Saturday.

Libby finished the two-day event with a 5-0-1 record. Whitefish was next at 5-0-2.

Southwestern A’s Corvallis, 4-1-2, and Dillon, 4-2-1, finished at third and fourth, respectively.

On Saturday, Whitefish beat Frenchtown and Butte Central in pool play and Hamilton in a matchup of pool runner-ups.

Whitefish kicks off Northwestern A play Friday hosting Libby.

“This was a terrific start to our season,” Libby Coach Cindy Ostrem-Johnston said via email. “I am very proud of the girls. They competed well. They rose to the occasion and earned the Big Marble.”

Ostrem-Johnston reported her team had 52 aces altogether for an 89.6 team serving percentage.
