The Libby High School boys and girls golf teams compete in a strong conference, says Coach Dann Rohrer, but he’s confident in the strength of his Loggers.

“The most exciting thing about this coming season is the attitude and work ethic both the boys and girls have shown,” he said via email. “They have come into the season practiced and ready as shown by our first tournament results.”

At the tournament, held Aug. 16 in Whitefish, junior Ryggs Johnston set a new course record with a 61 and both the boys and girls teams took third place with all conference teams in attendance.

“The western conference is always in the mix at State and this year will be no different,” he wrote.

Of the other conference teams, Rohrer listed Hamilton, Polson and Whitefish as noteworthy opponents.

Two seniors are returning to the girls team — Haylee Cannon and Khalyn Hagenss — and Rohrer reports they are joined by five new players.

“Sammee Bradeen and Allie Snyder have shown strong starts and appear to lead in the scoring column,” Rohrer wrote.

On the boys’ side, two-time Class B state champion Johnston “continues to be a strong competitor and he sets the pace for the other boys,” he wrote.

Rohrer said the biggest challenge his teams face is that “the schedule comes at us strong and fast.”

“There are many good teams and we need to be ready by the end of September to play our best,” he wrote.
