Ryggs Johnston shoots 6 under in Shelby to win again

SHELBY — Libby sophomore Ryggs Johnston continued his perfect season with an impressive performance, carding a 6-under-par 66 to win the Sunburst/Valier Invitational by 17 strokes at Marias Valley Golf Course. The course will also host next month’s Class B state championship.

Johnston’s performance lifted the Libby boys to a tie for first place with Shelby, with the meet scored as a Class C event marking the top three performers per team. Sebo Sanders tied for 18th, shooting 97, and Andrew Freese finished 21st with a 98.

The Libby girls didn’t field a team.
