Libby Youth Center says thank you

| April 21, 2017 1:44 PM

Libby Youth Center (LYC), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, provides a great place free for youth to hang out, yet needs to pay operating costs.

Rita Lampton and Mary Hickey offered to raise funds for LYC with a rummage sale by donations only. Because of Rita and Mary organizing and managing our April 8 rummage sale and the several volunteers who sorted and placed the donated items throughout LYC, because of the Western News’ notice of our fund raising rummage sale, because of the many people who donated items, and because of the many people who not only gave donations for items but gave extra donations, the proceeds were $1,900!

We had a $1,500 property tax bill because Libby Youth Center did not open until April after months of repairs and renovations, too late for the property valuation date of January 1, 2016 that classified the vacant building as commercial (LYC 2017 tax bill is less than $500 when MT property tax was reclassified to nonprofit). With the $1900, LYC paid 2016 taxes and the last fuel order until next fall (hopefully)! By the way, we have 304 youths registered at LYC! THANK YOU TO ALL WHO PARTICIPATED!

Dr. Laura Tindall,

Libby
