The Lady Loggers volleyball team is at 1-0 in conference and 6-1 overall after the four wins over the weekend against the Bigfork Valkyries on Thursday and the Ronan Maidens on Friday, followed by the Anaconda and Mission on Saturday.

In the end of the Bigfork match, the home team won in three gripping games of 25-15, 25-20 and 25-23.

The first Lady Loggers volleyball game against Bigfork started after a quick fire-alarm scare where everyone, including the players and coaches, rushed outside to the rear parking lot.

In total, the team scored 15 aces, 26 kills, 24 assists and 23 digs. Emily Mossburg led the aces with six in total, with Brooklyn Rainer scoring four. Both Rainer and Mehki Sykes had seven kills with Jayden Winslow not too far behind with six. Rainer also led the team with blocks, with three and Mossburg with two. Emma Gruber scored the team-high for the match of seven digs, Winslow with five and Alli Collins with four.

The game got off to a shaky start with the opposing team scoring 0-2, but the Lady Loggers gained momentum, catching up 1-2 with a spike from Sykes.

While the Valkyries caught up, the home team struck back with a series of scores with a spike from Rainer, and two aces from Mossburg, bringing the game 7-4.

One of the major moments of the game was when Sykes spiked the ball, only for the ball to be returned for her to make a block, when the ball returned for a third time, she slammed a spike to the floor, bringing the score 14-9.

The Valkyries picked up some momentum at the end of the first game, when the Lady Loggers shortly got it back, with 22-14.

The first game came to a brisk end when Rainer hit two aces in a row, finishing the first match.

Things looked grim for the home team at the beginning of the second match, struggling to keep up with Valkyrie’s 8-3 lead over the team.

Then, in a swift move of vengeance, the team caught up when Mossburg provided two aces and Winslow struck down one. Throughout the second match, the Valkyries never strayed too far behind. After Sykes brought the game 20-15 with a spike, the opposing time began to catch up, bringing the game 20-19. Winslow gave the home team’s score some comfort room of 22-19 with a kill, and after the opponents scored again, another kill for 23-20. When Mossburg shot an ace, the game was ended with 25-20.

Unlike the first two games, the Lady Loggers started the third game in the lead, but the Valkyries were on their tail the entire match.

Mossburg and Rainer scored two kills, bringing the game 5-3. The two teams tied for a moment, at 7-7, when the Lady Loggers took their chance of a lead away. Mossburg and Sykes shared a remarkable act of teamwork when their block ended up scoring a goal at 14-11.

Not long after that, the match went off in a blur with both teams fighting for control over the net, the scores never more than three points away from each other at 16-15, 17-15, 17-16,17-17 and 18-17. Collins scored an impressive ace, bringing the game in the Lady Loggers’ favor 20-17.

Walker scored an ace towards the end of the match, bringing the game 24-21, but the Valkyries weren’t going to let the home team get away that easy. In two swift points, the opposing team brought the game to 24-23. In the end, Winslow brought the game to a finish, with a kill for 25-23.
