Former McCormick firefighters offer clarity

| September 9, 2016 10:15 AM

Aug. 7, 2016

We the former chief and firefighters of McCormick Rural Fire District offer the following testament of our resignations, which is intended to clarify the misinformation propagated by others about our decision to resign. We have been concerned about safety issues and the state of equipment maintenance policies, which seem to be a low priority of the management by the board. Our resignation letters to the board contained the following message:

“Due to circumstances beyond our control, regretfully we resign our positions with the McCormick Fire Department on May 18, 2016. When improved changes are made within the management and safety culture, we ask to please accept the return of our volunteer efforts. We are very dedicated to our community.”

Respectfully,

(Signed) Chief Corwin Harris, Assistant Chief Chris Smith, Tony Wohlsein, and Kena Wasmer.
