Lady Loggers take on 10 teams in Missoula

The Lady Loggers were busy last weekend, facing off against many teams from across the state, including teams in Class A and AA.

Hellgate, Columbia Falls, Helena, Glacier, Polson, Butte, Charles M. Russell High School, Frenchtown, Whitefish and Big Sky each went against Libby during the two-day Missoula Tournament on Oct. 20 and 21.

“I felt our team gained a lot from competing against so many different good teams in two days,” head volleyball coach Cindy Ostrem-Johnston said. “We had our highs and lows, but overall positive experience.”

Against Hellgate the team split with 20-17 and 12-20. The team was then swept by Columbia Falls 5-20 and 12-20. Helena also defeated the Lady Loggers with 11-20 and 12-20.

Libby seemed to keep up with Glacier a little more with scores of 14-20 and 11-20. The team fended off Polson 20-17 and 20-15, and edged Butte with a repeat of 20-17 and 20-15.

Against Charles M. Russell High School, Libby lost by a small margin, 17-20, 15-20.

Libby defeated Frenchtown, 25-16, 25-21, Big Sky, 25-18, 16-25, 15-13 and Polson 30-28, 20-25, 13-15.

Alli Collins led the team in aces with 13, followed by Mehki Sykes with 12, Brooklyn Rainer scored 11 and Jayden Winslow 10, with a team total of 57.

The team totaled 191 kills, with Rainer coming in with 60, Sykes with 56, Winslow with 27 and Haylee Cannon with 19.

Collins contributed a whopping 175 assists out of the team’s 182.

With a team-total of 22 blocks, Sykes made 15 while Emily Mossburg blocked six.

Winslow came on-top with digs with 62, while Gruber had 50 and Collins had 49. As a team, Libby had 262 total.
