Maloney, Thorstenson lead Loggers at state

Senior Colin Maloney and sophomore Lauren Thorstenson led the Libby High cross country team at the Class B state meet on Saturday at Rebecca Farm in Kalispell.
Maloney brought home a 10th-place finish, while Thorstenson placed 12th. Both qualified as “all-state” since they finished in the top 15.
Maloney’s time of 16:51 was a personal best.
Coach Rodd Zeiler was proud of all his runners’ efforts. As far as Maloney, he noted that the soccer player practiced with the team two or three mornings a week during soccer season.
Thorstenson finished with a time of 20:02 on the course, which included a “long arduous hill,” Zeiler said. He noted that the last ¾-mile was “all hill.”
It rained lightly while the girls were warming up, Zeiler said, but stopped shortly before the race began. It was a difficult course of grass and mud, he said.
As a team, the Libby boys placed 16th out of 27 teams, while the girls were 12th out of 21.
