Norvell pleads not guilty to assault charges
A 29-year-old man pleaded not guilty to two assault charges on Monday in District Court.
Brian Thomas Norvell was arrested on Sept. 25 and later charged with assault and assault on a police officer. He also faces a probation violation.
The assault charges each carry a penalty of two to 10 years in prison and a fine of up to $50,000.
According to a sheriff’s office report, Chief Detention Officer Travis Miller was “processing medications” with Norvell when Norvell punched him in the mouth. Afterward, Miller Tazed Norvell.
Miller had a bloody mouth as a result of the punch, Deputy Brent Faulkner reported. Miller later received eight stitches as a result.
The other assault charge is under seal by the court.
Norvell has an omnibus hearing scheduled for Nov. 21 at 9:30 a.m. and a pre-trial conference set for Nov. 28 at 9:30 a.m.
