The Troy and Libby volleyball teams squared off for the second time this season on Tuesday, with Libby once again coming out on top. Libby came away with the win, 25-21, 25-11, 25-14.

Comparing the scores with their previous game against Libby, it seems the Lady Trojans have improved over the last month. In their last game against each other, Libby swept Troy in three games, 25-10, 25-11, 25-15, during which Troy scored only 36 points. In this match, they scored 46.

The two teams kept up with each other through the match, both teams keeping the ball in the air for many good volleys, thrilling the fans.

While the Loggers took the win, the Trojans had more momentum in the beginning, leading for most of the first game.

“We got off to a slow start, but we kept our composure and worked our way back into it in the first set, then controlled the tempo pretty well from there,” Libby head coach Cindy Ostrem-Johnston said.

Troy head coach Mandy Love said that her team played well, continuing their strong defense they’ve built this year.

On the Lady Loggers’ side, Haylee Cannon led the team in aces with four, and Emily Mossburg added three. The team had a total of 13 aces.

In the team’s 35 kills, Mehki Sykes led with 13 with Brooklyn Rainer following with 11. Jayden Winslow and Cannon had four each.

Alli Collins gave the team 31 out of the 32 assists.

Rainer and Sykes both led in blocks with two each.

With 41 digs, Emma Gruber’s 11, Cannon’s 9, Collin’s 7 and Winslow’s seven showcased the team’s strong defensive skills.

For the Lady Trojans, Alyssa Lewis, Annie Day and Sami Rohrich each scored one ace.

Lewis and Sami Rohrich also scored three kills each, while Allie Brown had 10 assists.

Lewis and Rohrich blocked one ball each. Kaitlyn Downey led the team in digs with 20.

Libby is in Missoula for a tournament yesterday and today, while Troy played at Thompson Falls on Oct. 20.

The teams will compete in the district tourney in Eureka, Oct. 27-29.
