Lady Loggers take 3rd at Butte tourney
The Lady Loggers had a busy weekend, walking away with third place out of five teams at the Butte Central Tournament on Saturday against Belgrade, Corvallis, Stevensville, Park City and Dillon.
The team kept up with Belgrade, but lost 21-25, were swept by Corvallis 6-25, won over Stevensville 25-20 and Park City 25-23. Against Dillon, the team lost two out of three games in a match of 21-25, 25-22 and 10-15.
Head volleyball coach Cindy Ostrem-Johnston noted that, while the team won a couple of games and the tournament doesn’t count against the conference, it seemed the players didn’t play to their full potential.
“We did not have our best performance, seemed like everyone was off,” Ostrem-Johnston said.
Through the entire tournament, the team had a total of 13 aces, Alli Collins led the team with four, Jayden Winslow close behind with three.
The team also had 70 kills, with Mehki Sykes leading with 23, Brooklyn Rainer with 18, and Winslow and Cannon with 11. Collins provided 53 assists, with a 58 total for the team.
Sykes blocked two out of the team’s three blocks.
In a total of 91 digs, Winslow led the team with 25, Collins 19, and Emma Gruber with 17.
Troy will host the Lady Loggers today at 4 p.m., and will travel to Missoula for the tournament on Thursday and Friday.
