Bennett would give Libby two reps, Troy zero

In looking at the election on Nov. 8 for the two finalists for Commissioner in District 2, it is patently evident that gerrymandering is alive and well in Lincoln County.

Gerald (Jerry) Bennett touts in his ads that his is a 56-year resident of Lincoln County, which is true, but what he leaves out is that he is a 56-year resident of Libby. He, in the legal sense is a resident of District 2, but on the far eastern edge due to the above mentioned gerrymandering. Are we to believe that a Libby resident and probably a “good old boy,” would be the best commissioner for Troy and District 2? That is hard to believe when he does not live, work, shop, or play in Troy or its environs. I am sure everyone in District 1 is cheering and will vote Bennett, hoping that they will have two commissioners representing Libby and its environs and he is counting on name recognition as a representative to help him get elected.

It must be hard to pull away from feeding at the public trough once you get a taste of it. If he prevails, at least you will have a good headline for the next edition: “Final score: Libby 2, Troy O.”
