A newcomer this election and active member of the community looks forward to making a difference in the county.

Rhoda Cargill, 62, candidate for Lincoln County Troy District representative, plans to be a more functioning and responsive county commissioner.

Although she does not have experience as an elected official, she said she has been active in local and state governments since moving to Lincoln County 14 years ago.

“I have been active in Lincoln County to bring solutions,” Cargill said. “To ensure that the ordinances that get passed do not have, or have as few as possible, unintended consequences to the people within this county.”

Cargill said she has spent her time in the county conversing with people and raising awareness of certain issues. In the spring, Cargill went from door to door to engage with voters.

“It’s the people we’re supposed to represent as the commissioner,” she said. “I need to know what they think, and I need to know if my thoughts resonate with them.”

Many of the people she spoke to during her campaign, she said, have expressed concerns with county government and the economy. She also met with numerous nationally-renowned experts in a variety of fields who are willing to work with the county commissioners to work on various issues.

When it comes to the economy, Cargill knows that there are some things that are out of her hands, but there are some things that she would like to do, including staying up-to-date and active with the state Legislature.

“I know that our county can become much better,” Cargill said. “Until we address these fundamental issues, our country isn’t ever going to move forward. The current condition is simply that if everything is maintained as is, our country isn’t being maintained, we are continuously going downward. Something needs to happen to stop that downward spiral.”
