LHS girls score first goal of season, but fall 4-1

The Libby High girls soccer team is making progress as evidenced by their first goal of the year Saturday against Bigfork, but it still wasn’t enough as the Lady Loggers fell 4-1 at home.
It was the first time this year that coach Jay Forsyth had all 18 of his team members healthy, and it showed as Libby kept the ball in Bigfork’s half of the field for most of the first 20 minutes.
“We pressed early well but just didn’t capitalize on a couple opportunities,” Forsyth said.
Bigfork scored with 23:14 to go in the first half on a goal by freshman Ashton McAnally.
Junior Madison Gardner followed up with the first of her three goals with 11:23 left in the half to make it 2-0.
Libby freshman Sydney Gier’s kick at the 7:29 mark was just high, but junior Ashlyn Hoff got the hosts on the board with a kick in a scrum in front of the goal with less than two minutes remaining in the half.
Bigfork put the game away in the second half with two more goals by Gardner.
Libby hosts Columbia Falls at 4 p.m. today, Tuesday, and Polson at 4 p.m. Thursday before traveling to Whitefish on Saturday.
