On Nov. 21, 40 families in the Troy area were surprised with a free Thanksgiving dinner delivered to their front door.

When the Lincoln County Credit Union wanted to do something special for Thanksgiving, they decided to go all-out and purchase 40 dinner boxes with turkey, potatoes, stuffing and all the trimmings. Troy High School jumped on board, and teachers selected families and the high school student council delivered the boxes.

This isn’t an isolated incident.

Each year, the Lincoln County Credit Union donates funds to all the annual community events, sponsor and contribute funds to local school and youth programs and determine other organizations or specific needs in our community they can provide funds for.

“It is such a joy to be able to give back and support our community in a variety of ways,” President of the Lincoln County Credit Union Chari Lucas said.

This year, they’ve provided $2,000 to purchase 40 Christmas gifts of $50 each for Troy District students, that the teachers then provide the names and gift ideas and the student council shops and wraps the presents.

They also purchased 100 blankets and 100 teddy bears for the local law enforcement to give to children when they are taken from homes.

Earlier this year, the credit union gave $1,000 to both Libby’s Closet and Shopko for Lincoln County Crisis Solutions. According to Lucas, the organization is a safe place for abused family members to go and stay, but most of the time the children come to the shelter without any extra clothing from home. They decided to help out by donating money for clothes to get the children back into school and in a safe space.

“I just get so passionate about these children that it just breaks my heart,” said Lucas, who said that they’re unofficial theme this year is children in need.
