Ima Jean Southworth
Ima "Jean" Southworth, age 91, passed away Oct. 29, 2016 at home with her children at her side. She had Parkinson's disease for the last 10 years. She lived through this progressive debilitating disease with bravery and dignity, always trying to stay engaged in life and finding enjoyment with family and friends. Jean was born in 1925 to John and Emma Cook. She grew up in Elk River, Idaho with her two younger sisters, Norma and Marilyn.
She married Albert Southworth, a World War II veteran, in 1946 and they were married 66 years, until Albert passed away in 2012. They made their home and raised their family in Spokane, Wash. until they came to Libby, Mont. to live with their daughter and son-in-law in 2012. Jean and Al had a summer cabin where they welcomed family and friends over the years. So many wonderful memories were made with them there. The family will carry on their legacy at the cabin.
Jean will be kept in our hearts until we meet her again. She lived a good life, she loved well, and was well-loved.
Jean is survived by daughter Dorie and Tony Stephens of Libby, Mont., son Brian of Spokane, Wash.; grandchildren Amy and Todd Gray, Ryan Butler, Alex Southworth, Holli and Boon Stephens-Hardgrove and Cody and Megan Stephens; great-grandchildren Sierra Gray, Morgan Stephens, Triston, Matthew and Josh Hardgrove and Sullivan "Sully" Stephens. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the light of her life. She is also survived by sister-in-law Sarah Franklin and her nieces and nephews whom she cared for very much.
Services will be held Saturday, Nov. 19, 2016, 1 p.m. at Millwood Presbyterian Church, Spokane Valley, Wash. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Home Options Hospice (313 Montana Ave, Libby, Mont. 59923), NW Parkinson's Foundation 7525 SE 24th St, #300, Seattle, Wash. 98040) or the charity of choice.
