Lady Loggers win district title
The Libby Lady Loggers won the 7B District Tournament on Saturday, and they did it without any seniors on the roster.
LHS coach Cindy Ostrem-Johnston said she was proud of how her team played.
Victories over Bigfork and Eureka gave the Libby ladies a No. 1 seed going into the Western B Divisional tournament at Anaconda on Thursday.
Libby will play Deer Lodge, the No. 4 seed from District 6B, at 2 p.m.
Troy was ousted in the first game on Saturday when they lost to Eureka.
Libby advanced to the district championship with a 25-12, 25-16, 22-25 and 25-18 win over Bigfork.
Jayden Winslow led Libby with six aces, 15 kills and 10 digs. Brooklyn Rainer added three aces, 11 kills and five blocks.
Also contributing were: Mehki Sykes with 14 kills and four blocks and Alli Collins with 39 assists and 12 digs. Emma Gruber and Haylee Cannon each made nine digs.
Against Eureka, Libby won in three games, 25-20, 25-18 and 25-21.
Collins had three aces and 28 assists, while Winslow had 13 kills and 11 digs and Sykes had eight kills and four blocks.
Gruber led in digs with 13, while Cannon had eight.
Overall, the Lady Loggers are 13-3.
“Jayden had a stellar tournament,” Ostrem-Johnston said. “She played solid in all aspects of the game and really stepped up her offense.”
She noted that Cannon was “rock solid” with her serving with 25 out of 26 in bounds for a tournament.
Here are the remaining Western B Divisional matchups: Florence vs. Thompson Falls, Ronan vs. Eureka and Bigfork vs. Anaconda.
