Loggers hit personal bests at divisionals
The Lady Loggers had an impressive performance during the weekend’s Western B Divisional track meet, qualifying for the state competition in 15 of 17 events and competing for the top team spot right to the end of the meet.
“We had the girls penciled in for about 70 team points and we hoped that might get us a third place trophy,” said coach Jim May. “They finished with 90 and actually were in contention for first until late in the day.”
The teams, both boys and girls, May said, put up a host of personal bests en route to a stellar overall performance.
“This is the most fun our coaches and kids have had at a Divisional Track Meet in years,” May said. “Personal bests and gutty performances all over the place. On the girls’ side of the track, May highlighted the work of six competitors in particular.
“Lauren Thorstenson placed in all three distance races with personal bests in each one as well,” he said. “She won the 1600m run. The way she competed Saturday was really inspiring.
“Emily Mossburg scored 18 of our team points with her places in the high jump, 800m run and running a leg on our 2nd place 4x400 relay team.
“Abigail Creighton will be competing in the pole vault and run on both relays at state. She’s having a great first season in track!
“Emma Gruber’s hurdle times also just keep dropping and she really is learning to compete with the best kids in the state.
“Shannon Reny put two feet on her personal best in the shot put with a first place throw of 34’2”. She also came within a foot of winning the javelin. Her first season of high school track has been awesome!
“Sidney Stevenson is proving to herself how strong she can be. Sidney will be competing in the 200 and 400m dashes as well as both relays for us.”
