Lady Loggers win district track meet

Libby’s girls scored in 16 of 17 events en route to a six-point team victory at the District 7B track meet, held at Logger field Saturday, May 14.

Led by Lauren Thorstenson, who placed top five in three events, the Lady Loggers racked up 146 points on their way to the district title. Thorstenson won the 1,600 and 3,200 races and placed fourth in the 800. 

Each of the Mossburg sisters also placed in two events, Emily Mossburg winning the 800 and placing second in the high jump while Krysten Mossburg placed fourth in the high jump and third in the long jump.

Shannon Reny, Emma Gruber and Abigail Creighton rounded out the Lady Loggers who ended the day placing in multiple events. Reny placed first in the shot put and fourth in the javelin, Gruber placed second in both the 100 and 300 hurdles and Creighton placed second in the long jump and third in the high jump. 

Sydney Stevenson took fifth in the 400 and the Libby A team captured the championship in the 4 x 400 relay.

On the boys’ side of the track, the Loggers placed fourth overall, with 70 points. Thompson Falls ran away with the meet, scoring 200.

Tim Goodman and Dominic Voorhies led the Loggers, placing in three events each. Voorhies placed fifth in the 200 and fourth in the high jump and javelin. Tim Goodman was fourth in the 800, and third in both the 1,600 and 3,200.

Brian Peck and Michael Diller each placed in two events. Peck tore up the hurdles track, placing fifth in the 300 and fourth in the 110. Diller placed fifth in the 1,600 and fourth in the 3,200.

Also placing for the Loggers were Cole Walker, who took fourth in the 100, Gavin Strom who took second in the long jump and Logan Nelson who placed fifth in the 400. The Loggers 4 x 400 relay team placed second.

Logger coach Jim May was pleased with his team’s performance at the district meet and is looking forward to qualifying his athletes for the state tournament at this weekend’s divisional tournament in Missoula.

“The individual athletes in each event will be competing at the Western B Divisional Meet in Missoula this weekend,” May said. “If they place in the top six at that meet they get to go on to the State Meet the following weekend in Bozeman. Our boys team really out did themselves Saturday. We qualified more boys in more events than we had anticipated and our girls team scored in 16 of the 17 events on their way to winning the 7B District championship.”
