Champs! Libby boys and girls tennis claim divisional titles
The Loggers had an impressive weekend on the courts, claiming both the boys’ and girls’ championships at the divisional tournament in Bigfork.
The Logger boys dominated the competition, with the four singles players closing out the semifinal matches to claim the top four spots. Jason Brant defeated Colin Maloney in the championship match to claim first place, with Maloney in second. In the battle for third and fourth, Jhamaal Sykes defeated Cody Wood. In doubles play, Erik Lauer and Braydan Thom claimed second place while Gio Cano and Ryan Nagle grabbed third.
On the girls’ side of the nets, Lady Logger Kaylene Hudson claimed the singles championship, beating Troy’s Allie Brown in the final match.
“The match was a real battle with both girls playing well,” said Troy coach Nancy Prieve. “They had some of the longest points and games I have seen in a long time.”
Libby’s Isabelle Martineau, who fell to Brown in the semifinals, rallied back in the consolation match to claim third. In girls’ doubles, Dani Hawthorne and Mehki Sykes earned second place honors, with Cloie Boardner and Jenna Barrick placing third.
The Loggers will be taking six girls and eight boys to the state tennis tournament in Missoula this weekend. Allie Brown will be the lone player representing Troy at state.
