Loggers win St. Regis Invitational
Libby’s dynamic duo continues to tear up the links heading into this week’s divisionals. Freshman Ryggs Johnston shot the course record, 64, at Trestle Creek for the St. Regis Invitational. Teammate Jonny Cielak finished second with a 72 to help the Loggers claim the team victory.
Andrew Frees shot a 95 and Zander Petersen a 101 to round out the boys’ team. On the girls’ tees, the Loggers brought two competitors to the field. Lily Feeback placed fifth with a 102 and India Croucher shot 149.
“The boys golf team placed first for the second time this year, beating out Thompson Falls, last year’s state champions,” said Libby coach Dann Rohrer. “Thompson Falls had two boys shoot 76 but the Libby boys held on to win it by two strokes. Between Ryggs and Jonny they shot 7 under on the back nine, Ryggs with a 32 and Jonny with a 33. Ryggs tied the course record firing a super round of 64. Andrew Freese and Zander Petersen also played well to help their team to the win. On the girls side Lily continues her consistent play placing again in the top 10.”
The Loggers tee it up again today in Anaconda at the Old Works Golf Course for divisionals. Rohrer said his team is peaking at the right time.
“We seem to be playing good golf at the right time,” he said. “The kids keep putting in the time and effort on the practice tee, putting green, and on course work.”
