Troy girls drop doubleheader
The Lady Trojans got off to a rocky start for the young softball season, dropping both games of a doubleheader to the visiting Lady Badgers of Bonners Ferry High School. The early game ended by virtue of the mercy kill rule after just four innings, with Bonners Ferry on top 18-0. The Lady Trojans’ fought back in the second game, but fell 12-2 in five.
“We did not play to our potential,” said head coach Keith Haggerty. “Our pitchers did their job by throwing strikes, but we were real slow coming out of the gate. We had six players not eligible for the first game and were missing two starters also.”
Kaitlyn Downey was assigned the first game loss for Troy. The team went without a hit, as well.
In the second game the Lady Trojans managed two hits and two runs, compared to 12 runs and 14 hits for their opponents. Kylie Carr was handed the loss.
The team’s next games are set for Saturday, April 2 in St. Ignatius. Haggerty said he’s looking forward to improvement and more offense from his team.
“They will improve as we go forward,” he said. “We play Mission and Deer Lodge in Mission on April 2. I think our bats will start waking up.”
