Hecla Mining, the company that purchased Revett Mining last year has scheduled three public meetings in Lincoln and Sanders counties this week.

The first meeting is scheduled for tonight at 6:30 p.m. at the Sawtooth Grill in Noxon. The second meeting will be held at the Elks Lodge in Thompson Falls at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 9. The final meeting will be held in the Fjord Room of the Venture Inn in Libby on Thursday, March 10, also at 6:30 p.m.

The meetings are intended to provide a public forum for discussion about the Rock Creek Mine project and the recently-released Draft Supplemental Environmental Impact Statement. Hecla chief executive officer Phillips Baker, Jr. said the meetings are a way for members of the public to learn about the project and how to submit comments about the draft statement. Public comments, he said, will help the United States Forest Service issue the necessary permits to move the project forward.

“One way to help us do that is for you, members of the public living closest to the project, to submit comments on the DSEIS,” he said. “This is a foundational document for how we operate the mine and protect the environment; and, we encourage folks to submit their views during this comment period.”
