Commission meeting set for March 10

Several final action items are on the commission’s agenda including two fishing access site lease renewals, Future Fisheries projects approvals, peregrine falcon falconry take, the Keep Cool Hills management biennial agreement, an agreement with Montana Radio Company to place and operate a tower on FWP land in Region 4, and establishing an HD 217 Elk B License, which was inadvertently omitted from original regulation proposal that came before the commission last month.

Items proposed for commission endorsement include a donated addition to Canyon Creek Wildlife Management Area, and four conservation easements.

Permit deadline March 15

The March 15 deer and elk permit application deadline has gained more importance to hunters in west-central Montana as a result of the new regulations for the 2016 hunting season.

This year, the Fish & Wildlife Commission reinstated antlerless elk permits in 13 of the 30 hunting districts in Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks Region 2, and the deadline to apply for these and other deer and elk permits is March 15.

These antlerless permits replace antlerless “B” licenses in many hunting districts. Unlike a B license, the permit does not allow hunters to harvest a second elk.
