The Libby Loggers closed out the BIG BUCK$ Tournament Sunday in fourth place after a crushing 18-3 loss to the Lewis and Clark Cubs.

The Cubs got an early jump on the Loggers with two runs in the first inning and followed up with 10 runs in the second. Libby committed seven errors in the game.

The Loggers managed to put together three runs across the third and fourth innings, but three more Cubs runs in the fifth managed to end the game early, 18-3 for Lewis and Clark. The Cubs finished with 14 hits to the Loggers 4.

It was a heavy plunge in performance from the previous two games in the tournament. On Saturday night the Loggers staged a late comeback win on the Coeur d’Alene Lumbermen, who had built up a 3-0 lead after the top of the sixth inning. Libby answered in the bottom of the sixth with three runs of their own to tie the contest. Coeur d’Alene chipped in one more run in the top seventh to take the late lead, but the Loggers were able to load the bases in the bottom of the seventh, setting up Shayne Walker for a clutch 2 RBI single, scoring Braydan Thom and Dylan Lane for the comeback win.

On Friday night, the Loggers pulled out another late win over the enduring Strathmore Reds, finishing the game 6-5.

Libby had padded a wide 6-1 lead by the end of the third inning, while the Reds had made just one run in the first. But Strathmore managed to close that lead to 6-5 by the top of the sixth. With two outs and the bases loaded, the Loggers held the Canadians off in the end with an infielder’s choice out at first to squeak by with the win.

On Thursday night, the Loggers opened the tournament with a 7-6 loss to the Moscow Blue Devils. Moscow on Sunday took first place over the Tri-County Cardinals.
