Former Libby resident Josh Schad was recently recognized by Butte Cares. In recognition of National Prevention Week, the organization honored 10 people who exemplify the importance of working together to build a safe, healthy and drug-free community.

Schad is the principal at Whittier School in Butte. He, and the school, were recognized as a school community coming together to teach the importance of prevention during Red Ribbon Week, a national drug prevention program and throughout the school year. Staff and students, led by Schad participated 100 percent in the Red Ribbon Week events and activities.

During the week of October 23 through 30, 2015, activities and contest opportunities were presented to all area schools. Whittier school participated at a level that included all doors decorated to the theme “slam the door on drugs.”  In addition activity sheets were completed to promote the message of staying drug, alcohol and tobacco free. Theme days such as “I’m drug free from Head to Toe” where students and staff, including Schad all wore crazy hair and socks to school.
