89, of Troy

 

Warren J. Robbe, 89, died from asbestosis in the arms of his daughter on Saturday, Jan. 23, 2016, at his Troy home. Services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 30, 2016, at Assembly of God Church in Libby.

Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Pat and Charlie McLeod; sister, Nora May Auge; his stepchildren, Elsie DeMars and Larry James and their families, along with numerous nieces and nephews, friends and extended family. He is preceded in death by his wife, Esther, and brothers, Lewis and Carl.

Warren was born Oct. 29, 1926. He was raised in Spokane, Wash. He moved to Lincoln County in 1942. In 1944, he went to work for the U.S. Forest Service as a pack train driver who supplied remote camps. For many years he was a mechanic, wrecker driver and service manager at the Chevrolet garage in Libby. From 1972 until 1991 he and his wife, Esther, were the proprietors of the Troy Saverite, where Warren had a successful automotive repair business. To help with college expenses for his daughter, Warren started driving a school bus, which he continued to do for many years.

Warren was a founding member of the David Thompson Search and Rescue, and Libby Ambulance. Upon moving to Troy, he helped establish the Troy Ambulance, where he served for 26 years. Always a visionary and active volunteer, Warren served many community organizations including the Milnor Lake Cemetery and his beloved Kootenai Senior Center, where he served as treasurer along with delivering meals-on-wheels.
