The Lady Trojans fell to the visiting Lady Falcons of Florence Saturday night, 56-40.

The Troy girls got off to a slow start, building a deficit in the first quarter from which they just couldn’t dig out.

“For the Florence game we fell victim to another slow start,” said head coach Justin Young. “We spotted them 14 points after the first quarter. Once we settled down and picked up our intensity on defense, we were able to go on some runs and cut the lead to six points a couple of times. However foul trouble and poor shooting eventully led to them pulling away in the fourth quarter which led to the loss. Allie Coldwell was the leading scorer for both teams racking up 15 points. If she didn’t get into foul trouble, she could have probably dropped 30 that game.”

Young said he was pleased with his team’s performance, splitting games this weekend against Noxon and Florence.

“Overall I was satisfied with the weekend, but it also shows we have a lot of work ahead of us to get where we want to be by the end of the season,” he said. “We need to do a better job of coming out of the gate stronger. We have a tendency to take a couple of punches before we start fighting back. We need to come out of the gate swinging and match the other team’s intensity. With that said I am very happy where we sit at now. We were battling the injury and illnesses bug for the past few weeks, now we have everyone healthy. The girls are understanding their roles on the team, and are going on longer stretches of playing clean basketball. Hopefully we get a good week of practice and come out ready to play against two tough conference opponents.”
